As you may remember from my first post, I have recently accepted a challenge to rate and rank the top boy bands in various eras to see which boy band is the TOP boy band. AKA: a boy band THROWDOWN (or BBTD for short).

I have been prepping for the first match up over the last couple weeks – selecting boy bands, creating criteria, rotating through all my boy band t-shirts to get in the spirit – you know, the usual things you do when planning a BBTD. That, and the new BTS single, Dynamite, was released last week – which was VERY distracting.

First up will be the 80s throwdown, followed by four other throwdowns, and then a battle of winners to determine the ULTIMATE BOY BAND CHAMPION.

But you may be wondering, what kind of criteria are you using in these BBTDs? Well, I have been figuring that out. I will be using some quantifiable measures like:

• Longevity – how many years has the BB been around?
• Number of albums – how many albums did the BB put out?
• Billboard Top 100 hits – how many top 100 hits does the BB have?

But I will also have some other – less quantifiable measurements like:

• Choreo-gifted – what is the BB’s ability to throw down some solid, coordinated choreography?
• Sing-along/Swoon/Scream-ability – on a level of woot woot to SHRIEK, how do people react to this BB?
• Trendiness – leather outfits, frosted tips, mullets or ripped jeans, what has this BB contributed to the fashion of the day?
• CoHo wild factor – a little bit of “je ne sais quoi” with my discretion!
• NEW criteria: Popular vote – the highest ranked BB by the readers will get extra points!
