Boy Band Appreciation: SEVENTEEN

KPOP IDOL LISTS: SEVENTEEN MOMENTS THAT HAD ME SHOOK – Ali's Kpop Blog

If you are a regular reader, you know I am a super fan of boy bands! And in 2020, my boy band fanaticism was dominated by BTS – watching all the content, listening to all the music from all the BTS eras and of course participating in the Dynamite comeback. And don’t misunderstand – I am still into BTS (and am very much looking forward to the Butter release!) but so far this year, my boy band interests have been focused on another band: SEVENTEEN!

Made up of S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon and Dino, I originally overlooked SEVENTEEN (even though they were guest judges in I-LAND!) because I thought 13 members was just TOO MANY for a boy band. But I was wrong! They have very cleverly broken their big band into 3 teams – vocals, hip hop and performance – and each team brings a different dynamic to the band, and it WORKS!

And one of the things I like the best about SEVENTEEN is they are a self producing idol group – with the members responsible for writing, producing choreographing their music – and generally responsible for all aspects of their performances. I recently wrote about my love of dance captains, and Hoshi – the dance captain from SEVENTEEN – is one of my favorites and responsible for some of the catchiest, and most complicated, dance breaks out there today! If your curious about some of SEVENTEEN’s best songs, my favorites are: Pretty U, HIT and I really can’t stop listening to Left & Right!

SEVENTEEN recently had a segments on the Ellen show and on the Kelly Clarkson show, so I’m sure it won’t be long before more people discover the band and become CARATS just like me! In the meantime, I’ll just have to figure out how to find more time in the day so I can take another look at some of those other boy bands I may have initially overlooked!

What do you think about SEVENTEEN?
